Vasudevampattu
Situated 23 kms to the north west of Tiruvannamalai, this place was known to be ruled by a King by the name of Vasudeva Raja who built the temple in recognition of Ambal’s staying and praying here. There is a fort in the village built by him though in a ruined condition; being a devotee of Mahavishnu too, he had built a temple for Veeranarayana Swamy which has been renovated recently and available for worship. The place owes its name to him.
Legend has it that Chitragupta and Vichitragupta who work for Lord Yama once made a mistake and were cursed to go and live on Earth. They were supposed to have prayed to Lord Shiva here and obtained Vimochana. There is a separate Sannidhi for them in the temple. It is believed that those who offer their prayers here will be blessed with a peaceful and long life.
During festival days, the village uses a bullock cart for circumambulating the temple instead of the usual chariot, which is a unique and attractive feature here.
