Thenpallipattu

This is the third temple where Ambal Kamakshi halted and prayed. The location being very clos e to Tiruvannamalai, she felt frustrated that she was still unable to see Shiva and join Him.  Her brother Lord Vishnu who was residing nearby in Tiruparkadal , which is one of the Divyadesams,  came  and offered solace to her. There is a temple for Perumal nearby to mark this event. Since the Deity here is known as Palli Konda Perumal, this place to the south (‘Then’ in Tamil) of Cheyyar came to be known as Thenpallipattu.

The presiding deities here are Kailasanathar and Kanakambikai. Once an impressive structure built by the Cholas during the 10th century, this temple is now in a bad condition, with of the Sannadhis in the Praharam missing.  This is perhaps the only temple where even the Nandi is not there on the pedestal. The main Sannadhi as well as the hall in front have been partly restored by the local people in this temple and an once-a-day Puja is going now.  However the Perumal temple in the village is in a bad shape, overgrown with weeds and uncared for.

A feature of this place is the century old Brindavanam  of Gnanadesiga Swamigal lying to the west of village and the Tamil Veda Pathashala being run in it even today.

This temple is situated 26 kms to the North of Tiruvannamalai.
